Well, it is December 31st, 2006 and I'm feeling very melancholy. This has been a whirlwind year, things seemed to have picked up pace and it's a little frightening! Sometime during the course of this year I had an epiphany: Time is of the essence! I'm 43 years old and there are so many things that I have not done yet! What the hell am I waiting on? So many finite windows of opportunity that I have ignorantly let pass me by. What IS my problem? I'll get more into detail when I post my obligatory 'list of resolutions' tomorrow...
Well, although I'm accustomed to strange weather living in Alabama I don't think I can recall a previous New Year's Eve when it was necessary to run the air-conditioner! Seriously the weather is not hot, probably around 55 or so, but warm enough inside our brick dwelling to require a little a/c to remain comfortable. Although more oft than not, myself being pre-menopausal, I tend to 'freeze' my children most of the time anyway. PLUS, it is raining, YUCK! I hate rainy weather unless I'm in for the day/night/weekend. Unfortunately, I was lazy with my shopping last night and I MUST go out today so I'm totally dreading it! Although the necessity for me to venture out today was inevitable anyway because my daughter has plans, a party that she must be driven to and picked up from. So I guess my dreams of hibernating indoors for a whole day will have to wait until tomorrow!
We watched 'Little Miss Sunshine' last night (one of my daughter's few surprise Christmas gifts)! It was extremely good. A very interesting kind of dark comedy about a bizarre, somewhat dysfunctional family that travels across country in a VW bus so their daughter, Olive can compete in the 'Little Miss Sunshine' contest. It reminded me of a movie my daughter watched constantly when she was younger, called 'Matilda'. I'm not sure if there are any common directors, writers, etc between these two movies but I definitely saw some similarity. Anway, if you're looking for a different kind of movie, watch 'Little Miss Sunshine'.
Can't wait to watch the New Year's Eve celebration in Times Square on TV tonight. Since going to New York I have a complete 'New York State of Mind' and am ravenous for any glimpse of it I can catch on television or the web.
Everyone have a safe and fun New Year's Eve and I'll be back at ya in 2007!
